Introduction

At Soltura Spanish, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people who engage with our online tuition services.

This policy outlines our approach to ensuring their safety and well-being in compliance with UK safeguarding legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, and the Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines.

  • Online 1:1 tuition
  • Online group programme sessions
  • Pre-recorded lessons and digital course materials
  • Communication via email and approved educational platforms

All services are delivered online only.

Key Principles

  • Child-Centered Approach: The welfare of the child is paramount.
  • Equality and Diversity: All children have the right to protection from abuse regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality or beliefs.
  • Empowerment: Children and young people should be supported to understand their rights and know how to seek help if needed.
  • Prevention and Professional Boundaries: Clear professional boundaries and safe digital practices are maintained at all times.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Anna is responsible for overseeing safeguarding practices, maintaining up-to-date safeguarding training, implementing safe online teaching practices, providing advice and ensuring compliance with this policy.
  • Staff and Tutors: All staff and tutors must undergo safeguarding training, adhere to this policy, and report any concerns to the DSL.

Recruitment and Training

  • Background Checks: All staff and tutors must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before commencing work.
  • Training: All staff and tutors must complete safeguarding training at induction and receive regular updates.

Online Safety

  • Secure Platforms: Secure online platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet) are used for conducting sessions. Sessions are accessible only to enrolled students.
  • Recording of Sessions: If sessions are recorded, it will be for safeguarding and catch-up purposes. Recordings will be stored securely and accessed only by authorised personnel and enrolled students.

Independent Study and Digital Content

For students under 18 accessing independent study materials:

  • All resources are age-appropriate.
  • Platforms used are secure and educational in nature.
  • Communication remains within professional channels only.
  • Students are encouraged to join sessions from suitable shared spaces within the home where possible.
  • Appropriate dress, language, and professional conduct are maintained at all times.

Recognising and Responding to Concerns

  • Signs of Abuse: Staff and tutors must be vigilant for signs of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual abuse and neglect.
  • Reporting: Any concerns about a child’s welfare must be reported immediately to the DSL. The DSL will take appropriate action, which may include contacting local authorities or other relevant agencies.

Confidentiality and Information Sharing

  • Confidentiality: All safeguarding concerns must be handled with confidentiality. Information should only be shared with those who need to know.
  • Information Sharing: When necessary, information will be shared with relevant authorities in line with data protection laws and safeguarding guidelines.
